Announced in Cannes today, Craig William Macneill (The Boy) will be directing the upcoming psychological thriller Lizzie Borden. Based on the infamous murders, Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart will star in the film.
The story will follow the events that led up to the murders, with Sevigny starring as Borden, and Stewart as the young maid Bridget whom she befriends. Borden was acquitted of the 1892 murders of her father and stepmother. No one else was charged. Bryce Kass wrote the script for the film, which will be produced by Naomi Despres.
Myles Nestel for The Solution, who is handling selling foreign rights to the film, said, “Craig has the perfect vision for the film that is centered around the complicated relationship between two powerful women. He knows how to unravel the many psychological layers and seemingly fragile character of the infamous Lizzie Borden who is driven to commit a hideous murder.”
