Colin Trevorrow: ‘Jurassic’ Franchise Has More To Give

by Thomas Tuna

These dinosaurs may never die.

Jurassic World: Dominion–which recently became only the third film in the pandemic era to enter the billion-dollar club at the box office–may not be the last dino-flick on the horizon.

Director Colin Trevorrow–during a recent interview with Empire–said he intentionally made his film so that future filmmakers could build off his work. “I specifically did something different than the other films in order to change the DNA of the franchise,” he said.

The first five films, Trevorrow explained, have “plots about dinosaurs. This one is a story about characters in a world in which they co-exist with dinosaurs.”

Also, as the filmmaker pointed out, while Dominion had returning stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard–along with legacy stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum–it also featured the “fresh blood” of DeWanda Wise (as Kayla Watts), Mamoudou Athie (as Ramsay Cole) and Dichen Lachman (as Soyona Santos).

Characters like these–and others sure to appear in any future films–would only help develop additional storylines, leading Trevorrow to believe that–in the Jurassic franchise–there is “more to come.”
