Clu Gulager–the versatile, veteran actor who appeared in several genre films, including The Return of the Living Dead–has passed away at the age of 93.

Gulager passed away of natural causes at the Los Angeles home of his son John and daughter-in-law Diane, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

A real-life cowboy, Gulager was born in Holdenville, a small town just outside of Oklahoma City. After receiving a scholarship to study acting in Paris, Gulager worked in live television in New York City before moving to Los Angeles in 1959.

Known for his memorable roles in The Tall Man, The Virginian and The Last Picture Show, Gulager played the head of a medical supply warehouse who battles the undead in 1985’s The Return of the Living Dead. “I didn’t especially want to do it,” the actor said. “I thought I was kind of above that. As it turned out, I killed 18 zombies and then they came back and nuked me.”

Gulager also appeared in A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985), Feast (2005) and Piranha 3DD (2012).

Gulager is survived by his sons John and Tom, his daughters-in-law Diane and Zoe and his grandson Clu.

The staff of Horror News Network extends its condolences to Gulager’s family, friends and colleagues.
