Cloverfield Spin-Off Officially Announced for October 2017

Deadline broke the somewhat confusing announcement that the film God Particle has been dropped from Paramount’s 2017 schedule and has been replaced with the title “New Cloverfield film”.

Rumors have persisted for quite sometime that God Particle was a film that took place in the Cloverfield Universe.  Whether God Particle was a direct sequel or a related story such as 10 Cloverfield Lane has not been determined to this day.  Bad Robot is famous for “the veil of secrecy” surrounding their projects, so this move  (and the lack of information about the film) is not surprising to anyone.  The only information anyone has to go on at this time is that the film will be directed by Julius Onah  and star David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl and Chris O’Dowd. Deadline reports that the film”focuses on a group of astronauts aboard an international space station who make a shocking discovery and must fight for their survival.”

God Particle was originally set to released on February 24, 2017.  Instead, the newly untitled film will clash with Lionsgate’s Saw Legacy on October 27th, 2017.  With these two films , as well as a Friday the 13th reboot and Insidious 4, it appears that studios are once again targeting October as a month chock-full of horror films, unlike October 2016 which featured an atypical lack of horror offerings.

Stay tuned to Horror News Network for more studio date juggling as we get closer to the Halloween film season of 2017.
