Clive Barker Joins Up with HBO for ‘Hellraiser’ Series

by Larry Dwyer

The man behind Hellraiser, Nightbreed, Candyman and more is joining forces with HBO to executive produce a series adaptation of his classic Hellraiser for the network.

Perfect news for the spooky season, Deadline announced the deal with Clive Barker yesterday. The series promises to be a continuation (not a remake) of the Hellraiser mythology and will be directed by David Gordon Green of the latest Halloween trilogy (so is he going to retcon all Hellraiser films but the first? Sorry, had to say it). Writers for the series are Michael Dougherty (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Trick r’ Treat) and Mark Verheiden (Swamp Thing, My Name is Bruce).

In a statement, Clive Barker said that he was “delighted the Hellraiser mythology is seeing a new life. It’s time the stories went back to their roots. I’m eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it.”

No announcement on filming, cast or release yet but stay tuned to Horror News Network as we’ll be following this story closely.
