The PG-13 horror pic–directed by Rob Savage from a screenplay by Mark Heyman–stars David Dastmalchian, Marin Ireland, Vivien Lyra Blair, Madison Hu, Chris Messina and Sophie Thatcher.
The film takes some liberties with King’s original short story–published in the 1978 collection Night Shift–which deals with a man who visits a psychiatrist to discuss the bloody murders of his three children at the hands of an evil being.
The movie instead follows high school student Sadie Harper and her kid sister Sawyer, who are “reeling from the recent death of their mother, and aren’t getting much support from their father.”
And then, things get worse when a man shows up at their house, bringing with him “a terrifying entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.”
