The story behind the first Witcher is ready to be unwrapped.

The Witcher: Blood Origin–the four-episode prequel series to the hit Netflix horror/fantasy show–debuts on Christmas, Dec. 25, and one final clip has been unveiled. The video–seen on this page–is a sneak peek at the show’s opening scene–complete with two different versions of the bard Jaskier.

The new series–from showrunner Declan de Barra and executive producers Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Matt O’Toole–takes place in an Elven world some 1,200 years before The Witcher.

Blood Origin tells the story behind the first Witcher and the events that led up to “the pivotal conjunction of the spheres–when the worlds of monsters, men and Elves merged to become one,” according to the synopsis.

The series–starring Michelle Yeoh, Jacob Collins-Levy, Sophia Brown and Laurence O’Fuarain–is based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, who serves as a creative consultant on the show. “It’s exciting that the world of The Witcher is expanding, as planned from the beginning,” he said.
