Tom Welling just landed a “super” part.

The Winchesters–the prequel series to The CW’s long-running hit Supernatural–this week added Welling (best known for his role as the young Clark Kent on the Smallville series) to the cast, according to a report on Collider.

In the show–which debuts on The CW tomorrow, Oct. 11–Welling will play Mary Campbell’s father, Samuel. The recurring character is described as “gruff and pragmatic. He’s a veteran demon hunter who prefers action over words. It’s always his way or the highway.”

The Winchesters–written by executive producer Robbie Thompson–tells the backstory of John and Mary, the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester, with Dean (Jensen Ackles) acting as narrator of the new show.

In the show, when John Winchester (Drake Rodger) returns home from Vietnam, “a mysterious encounter sparks a new mission to trace his father’s past,” according to the synopsis. John “crosses paths with 19-year-old demon hunter Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly), who is searching for answers after the disappearance of her father.”

The cast also includes Bridget Regan as DJ Rockin’ Roxy, Bianca Kajilich as Millie Winchester, Demetria McKinney as Ada Monroe, Nida Khurshid as Latika Desai and Jojo Fleites as Carlos Cervantez.
