Buffy the Vampire Slayer Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

by John Evans

On March 10th, 1997 at 9:00 PM, Buffy the Vampire Slayer made its debut on The WB. After seven seasons and a major spinoff, Angel (which ran for five seasons of its own), it’s safe to say the show has made a permanent mark on pop culture. Redefining the modern television series with its witty dialogue and edgy content, Buffy almost instantly made creator Joss Whedon and actors Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Boreanaz, Alyson Hannigan, and many others, household names in the entertainment industry over the past two decades.

Tomorrow marks twenty years since the show first premiered, so Horror News Network would like to take a moment to reflect on all of the interesting story arcs, crazy characters and “Joss Whedon moments” which would later define modern pop culture hits like Firefly and Marvel’s The Avengers.

It’s going to be kind of a quiet celebration. To mark the occasion, the Pop TV channel will air the first two episodes at 9:00 and 10:00 AM ET, respectively. There isn’t much planned to celebrate this milestone for the series other than a few kitchy merchandise releases. But let’s face it, the real magic of Buffy the Vampire Slayer lies in our hearts. When you wake up tomorrow morning, take a moment to reflect on what Buffy meant to you 20 years ago!

Stay tuned to Horror News Network for news on all things horror!
