Bruce Campbell knows bloody horror when he sees it.
Campbell–one of true linchpins of the Evil Dead franchise as the iconic Ash Williams–is stoking the fires of the next entry in the film series, Evil Dead Rise.
Campbell–one of the producers of the new horror pic that hits theaters April 21–recently told Collider that Evil Dead Rise is “very serious, very straight, very gory, very hard-hitting, very unrelenting. It’s not going to be too many laughs, other than uncomfortable laughs.”
Writer/director Lee Cronin, Campbell said, was able to “branch out from the Evil Dead sandbox. It’s no longer a cabin in the woods. This film is an urban version with a family–a family that turns on themselves. It’s sort of a child’s worst nightmare.”
Evil Dead Rise follows Beth (Lily Sullivan) when she visits her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) in Los Angeles. But the sisters soon discover a mysterious book in the bowels of Ellie’s building that will change everything.
The discovery unleashes an army of “flesh-possessing demons” that forces Beth to fight for her very survival–as she faces “the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable,” according to the synopsis.
The rest of the cast includes Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis and Tai Wano.
