Bruce Campbell is teaming up with King Of The Nerds executive producers (Craig Armstrong and Rick Ringbakk of 5X5 Media) for a comedic horror-themed competition series.
It is tentatlive titled ‘Bruce Campbell’s Horrified’ and is being shopped to networks. It is hoping to be a celebration of horror fans though a comedic, irreverent lens, in a similar fashion as TBS’ ‘King Of The Nerds’ is to those who self identify as nerds. Campbell will be host and executive producer. 5X5 Media’s Armstrong, Ringbakk and Charles Wachter would also executive produce and 5X5 is producing with Warner Horizon TV.
The concept isn’t finished, however, so far the idea is that contestants would live together in a haunted house and compete in a series of team and solo challenges. Each episode would be centered around a horror sub-genre, such as monster, sci-fi, psychological, or zombie, along with decors, costumes and visual effects associated with each. They hope to bring horror celebrities into the series as judges, in the same way ‘King Of The Nerds’ does.
Campbell said “From where I’m sitting, this is the first time a reality series has melded competition and comedy with the fun and fear of the horror genre. “It’s a sweet spot I love and to pull it off takes a team of creative, industrious and slightly insane people – which is, of course, why I wanted to do it!”
Armstrong and Ringbakk added “Producing a horror-centric competition show, infused with comedy and brought to audiences by the inimitable Bruce Campbell, is a home run for us.”
