Bruce Campbell Says ‘Evil Dead Rise’ Will Be “Hard-Hitting”

An Evil Dead icon has placed his stamp of approval on the latest chapter.

Evil Dead Rise–slated for a debut on HBO Max sometime later this year–will not disappoint fans of the franchise. And that comes from longtime star (and current executive producer) Bruce Campbell.

The much-anticipated horror entry–written and directed by Lee Cronin–has Campbell “very excited,” according to a report on comicbook.com. “It’s going to be really cool and very, very intense,” he said. “It’s dark–a very adult Evil Dead movie.”

Campbell added that he wouldn’t call the film a “yuck fest, but it’s pretty tough, hard-hitting stuff. And that’s the variation you have within the Evil Dead franchise and within horror itself.”

The horror legend said “it’s all about the filmmaker. Sam Raimi handpicks these guys, and so Lee Cronin is a little bit of a serious dude. So, you let him do his thing.”

In this fifth Evil Dead film, according to the synopsis, “a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising her three children in a cramped Los Angeles apartment. But the reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building.”

This discovery gives rise to “flesh-possessing demons, and thrusts Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

The film stars Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie and Lily Sullivan as Beth, along with Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis and Tai Wano.
