Brainstorm Media Will Release Horror Pic ‘Ravage’ In August

Business has been booming at the virtual Cannes market, and Brainstorm Media this week was on hand to land the U.S. rights to the horror film Ravage from VMI Worldwide.

Brainstorm Media, according to a report from Deadline, plans to release the female-led kidnap thriller in select theaters and via VOD on Aug. 21.

The movie–which won the Best Feature Award at the New York City Horror Film Festival last year–stars Annabelle Dexter-Jones (Succession), Academy Award nominee Bruce Dern (Coming Home) and Robert Longstreet (who will appear in Halloween Kills later this year).

Ravage–written and directed by Teddy Grennan–is produced by Marsha Oglesby, Bennett Krishock and Grennan.

The film–originally titled Swing Low–follows Harper (Dexter-Jones), a nature photographer who, while shooting in a forest, “captures a disturbing event of a man being brutally whipped and beaten. After reporting the incident to the local sheriff, she is captured by the culprits and taken to an abandoned farm to be tortured. Due to Harper’s experience as a survivalist, she is able to escape, but is on the run and has to quickly outsmart the culprits.”

JD Beaufils, VMI president of sales, was excited about working with Brainstorm Media and the future of the film. “This will be the first of many partnerships with Brainstorm Media, and we felt that Ravage was the perfect fit,” he said. “Ravage is exciting and raw, and Annabelle Dexter-Jones is one of the best female protagonists that the audience will root for till the end.”

Echoing those sentiments was Michelle Shwarzstein, vice president of marketing and acquisitions for Brainstorm Media. “We’re thrilled to be working for the first time with VMI on Ravage and excited to bring a stylish, satisfying and gritty female-led horror film to U.S. audiences,” she said.

In related news, Ravage also was sold to Signature Entertainment for the UK, to Phoenicia Pictures for the Middle East, to Korea Screen for South Korea and to Falcon Pictures for Indonesia during the virtual Cannes.
