Blumhouse to Reimagine ‘The Blair Witch Project’

Prepare to get lost in the woods again.

Lionsgate will once again team with Blumhouse, this time on a reimagining of The Blair Witch Project. The announcement, thanks to Deadline, was made Wednesday by Adam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, and Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse, during Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas.

“I have been incredibly fortunate to work with Jason many times over the years. We forged a strong relationship on The Purge when I was at Universal, and we launched STX with his film The Gift. There is no one better at this genre than the team at Blumhouse,” said Fogelson. “We are thrilled to kick this partnership off with a new vision for Blair Witch that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation. We couldn’t be more pleased to be working with them on this and other projects we look forward to revealing soon.”

The last big horror franchise that Blumhouse touched was The Exorcist with The Exorcist: Believer. The movie was panned by critics and fans alike. We all know that fans of the Halloween series were seemingly split down the middle with Blumhouse’s take on the beloved franchise. How will that translate to The Blair Witch Project? We can only hope that the answer is much better than aforementioned.
