Will this film finally get in front of the cameras?
The Marvel remake of the 1998 Blade feature starring Wesley Snipes will begin shooting in about a month, according to a recent posting on the KFTV website (via Cosmic Circus).
The reboot–recently reported to be entitled The Blade (yet be confirmed by Marvel)–is now expected to start filming in Atlanta Oct. 5 and continue until Jan. 28, 2023, aiming for a theatrical release Nov. 3, 2023.
The new vampire film–directed by Bassam Tariq from a screenplay by Stacy Osei-Kuffour–stars Mahershala Ali in the titular role, along with Delroy Lindo, Aaron Pierre and Milan Ray in undisclosed roles.
The storyline has been kept under lock and key so far, but the film is expected to follow Eric Cross–a half-human, half-vampire hybrid–who has “honed his abilities to hunt down the undead.” Blade has spent his long life “seeking to rid the world of vampires like the one who killed his mother.”
The Marvel Comics Blade character–created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan–first appeared in The Tomb of Dracula No. 10 back in 1973.
