Hocus Pocus 2–the sequel to the 1993 Halloween fan-favorite–lands on Disney+ in a month, and a new image of one of the returning characters–Billy Butcherson–has dropped to tease the supernatural. Check out the photo–courtesy of Entertainment Weekly–on this page.
Doug Jones (Hellboy)–who portrays the undead Billy–said the transition from the original film to this sequel felt “seamless. That’s the first thing I felt. It keeps the pureness and nostalgia alive for those who grew up with the first movie–and the new fans will be excited about the modernization for the present time.”
Slipping back into the Billy character “came to me immediately,” the actor sad. “It was frightening how he’s been alive while I’ve been playing other characters all these years.”
The sequel–which also returns Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy in their Sanderson Sisters roles–is set 29 years after someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-Century sisters who were executed for witchcraft.
Now, they’re seeking revenge, and “it’s up to three high school students to figure out how to stop the witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve,” according to the synopsis.
The film–directed by Anne Fletcher from a screenplay by Jen D’Angelo–hits Disney+ Sept. 30, and features Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale and Sam Richardson in new roles.
