Amigo Comics included Beast No More: Metamorphosis in their announcement of their January solicitations yesterday. Of note was that this was a “one-shot prequel to accompany the feature film Beast No More, due for release 2017, starring Jessica Tovey and Dan Ewing, written by Jennifer Van Gessel.” The film is directed by Aaron Warwick who worked with Van Gessel on the Nancy In Hell television pilot. Don’t be surprised if this film is not yet on your radar as it is listed on IMDb as still filming and has yet to receive much press. So little press, in fact, that there is not really much more to say about the film at the time of this writing. However, a standout here is that Jennifer Van Gessel is a writer for the film and the writer of the comic. Having a movie and comic tie-in can provide a publicity boost for both properties and the January release date of the comic should help generate interest in the film expected later in the year. The synopsis for each is below.
Comic Synopsis: Set before the events of the film, Metamorphosis tells the story of Blanch, a young country girl whose world is turned upside down when her beloved father returns from the Vietnam War. Father is behaving strangely, but it isn’t long before Blanch unravels his secrets and is left to make a choice that will send her down a horrific path.
Movie Synopsis: A woman suffering the loss of a child throws herself in to work which leads to her uncovering the truth behind local urban tales of a “mothman”.
