The weekend was cold, but horror was still hot.
Barbarian–a new genre pic from 20th Century Studios and New Regency–led the second-worst weekend for box office action with a $10-million haul, according to a report on The Hollywood Reporter. This weekend will see only an estimated $42.3 million in sales overall.
The film–from writer/director Zach Cregger (Miss March)–follows a young woman, Tess (Georgina Campbell), who travels to Detroit for a job interview but, when she arrives, the house she rented is double-booked, according to the synopsis.
And things get even worse, as “a strange man, Keith (Bill Skarsgard), is staying there. Against her better judgment, Tess decides to spend the evening. She soon discovers there’s a lot to fear than just an unexpected house guest.”
Barbarian–produced by Roy Lee (The Grudge)–also stars Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers), Matthew Patrick Davis (Dwight in Shining Armor), Richard Brake (Rob Zombie’s The Munsters), Kurt Braunohler (The Big Sick) and Jaymes Butler (The Man with the Camera).
