Barbarian was a surprise horror hit for writer/director Zach Cregger when it hit theaters a couple of months ago (and digital around Halloween), and he’s wasted little time getting his creative juices flowing again.
The filmmaker said–during a recent interview with Coming Soon–that he’s been holing up in a “secluded cabin on the East Coast” writing his next genre screenplay. “I’m writing it,” he said, “and it’s coming along. I’m not there yet, but I’m making progress.”
Cregger added that “every day, it’s getting better and better. So, I am awesome–feeling very positive.” No hints were dropped on the storyline, so stay tuned for updates sure to come soon.
Barbarian–from 20th Century Studios and New Regency–follows Tess (Georgina Campbell), who travels to Detroit for a job interview but, when she arrives, the house she rented is double-booked, according to the synopsis.
And, to make matters much worse, “a strange man, Keith (Bill Skarsgard) is staying there and, against her better judgment, Tess decides to spend the evening. She soon discovers there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.”
Barbarian–produced by Roy Lee (The Grudge)–also stars Justin Long, Matthew Patrick Davis, Richard Brake, Kurt Braunohler and Jaymes Butler.
