New blood is on the way.
Interview with the Vampire–the AMC small-screen adaptation of the classic Anne Rice novel–will start shooting Season 2 in Prague next week, but with a huge casting change, according to a report on Deadline.
Delainey Hayles–who has appeared in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in London’s West End–will take over the key role of teenage vampire Claudia from the departing Bailey Bass.
Bass in a statement explained that she had to step away from the part “due to a variety of unforeseen circumstances.” She called the Claudia part “a dream role and an incredible ride. I wish Delainey the best of luck in taking over.”
AMC issued a statement that read, in part, that Bass “is a talented actor who did a remarkable job bringing the character of Claudia to life. We are grateful for her unforgettable performance in Season 1 and wish her nothing but the best.”
Hayles will join the returning Jacob Anderson (Louis de Pointe du Lac), Sam Reid (Lestat de Lioncourt), Eric Bogosian (Daniel Molloy), Assad Zaman (Armand) and Ben Daniels (Santiago).
The eight-episode second season–led by showrunner Rolin Jones–will build on Rice’s epic story that follows Lestat, Louis and Claudia in a tale of “love, blood and the perils of immortality, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy.”
