Sometimes, we create our own horrors.
Smother–a new Austrian horror feature from Glitter and Doom Film Productions–has been acquired by Picture Tree International for a theatrical release early next year, according to a report in Variety.
The movie–from writer/director Achmed Abdel-Salam–follows young mother Michi, who moves into an inherited summer house with her young daughter Hanna following the sudden death of her estranged father, according to the synopsis.
Michi–a former alcoholic–is trying to “regain the motherly trust she lost but, during the first night in the new house, long-repressed childhood memories of her mother’s suicide haunt her. Trying to numb herself again with alcohol only drives her daughter further away and accelerates Michi’s paranoid state.”
And finally, “when her demons also start to threaten her daughter, Michi must finally confront them to save her.”
The film–produced by Mathias Forberg and Eugen Klim–stars Cornelia Ivancan, Lola Herbst, Lukas Turtur, Heinz Trixner and Inge Maux.
