Austin Stoker–known to genre fans for such films as John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13 and Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell–has passed away at the age of 92.
Stoker passed away from renal failure in Los Angeles, his wife Robin told The Hollywood Reporter. “His transition was beautiful,” she said.
Stoker–raised in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad–came to New York as part of a local dance troupe to pursue a career in show business.
Perhaps best known for his role as Lt. Ethan Bishop in 1976’s Assault on Precinct 13, his character was put in charge of an L.A. police station that comes under siege from a violent street gang. “What I tried to portray,” Stoker once explained, “was, ‘What am I doing here, for God’s sake?”
Stoker also played Macdonald, the human assistant of Roddy McDowall’s Caesar in 1973’s Battle for the Planet of the Apes, and appeared in Horror High (1973) and 3 From Hell (2019).
In addition to his wife, Stoker is survived by his children, Tiffany and Origen, and grandsons Marcus and Austin.
The staff of Horror News Network extends its condolences to Stoker’s family, friends and colleagues.
