Another Young Actor Signs On For Sequel To ‘The Exorcist’

A devilishly good cast continues to round into form.

Yet another young actor has joined the growing roster of the first of three sequels to the 1973 horror classic The Exorcist, according to a report on Deadline.

Olivia Marcum–a newcomer who has played the lead in Matilda the Musical–will appear alongside recently announced Lidya Jewett, as well as Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd and the returning Ellen Burstyn. Marcum’s role was not revealed.

This first sequel will follow “the father (Odom) of a possessed child who tracks down Chris MacNeil (Burstyn),” according to the very brief synopsis. The feature lands in theaters Oct. 13.

The Universal Pictures/Blumhouse Productions/Peacock project is directed by David Gordon Green (the recent Halloween trilogy) from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Teems, Danny McBride and Peter Sattler.

The original The Exorcist–directed by William Friedkin from a screenplay by William Peter Blatty–follows a desperate mother’s fight to save her 12-year-old daughter from demonic possession through an exorcism. The film was the first horror movie nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award.
