The new trailer for Annabelle 2 (now titled Annabelle: The Creation) has just been released.
The trailer delivers the typical creepy doll and creepy kid moments one would expect from the sequel to the financially (although not critically) successful film. The sequel will be directed by David F. Sandberg (who delivered scares to movie goers recently in the form of Lights Out) and is set for release on August 11th, 2017. The original Annabelle ended up making $84 million dollars domestically and over $256 million dollars world-wide, so a sequel to the film was all but certain.
The trailer also clearly points out that the film is set in “The Conjuring Universe” further branding the franchise and preparing the horror world for more spin-offs such as one based on the Nun from The Conjuring Two, to be released in the summer of 2018. The profitability of the film series has been lost on no one, especially Gerald Brittle, the author of the Demonologist, who is seeking $900 million dollars in damages for his role in crafting the original case files of the Warrens in literary form.
