AMC Sheds Light On Last Eight Episodes Of ‘The Walking Dead’

The final curtain is about to drop.

The final eight episodes of AMC’s mega-hit The Walking Dead zombie series will kick off Oct. 2, and the midseason premiere title and synopsis were revealed this week, according to a report on comicbook.com.

The concluding batch of episodes in Season 11 will start with Lockdown, when Daryl and Negan “rush to the Commonwealth to stop Hornsby from going after their families,” according to the synopsis. In addition, Pamela “deals with protesters demanding justice for Sebastian’s crimes, and Mercer needs Rosita’s help to fight a swarm.”

Lockdown will be followed by A New Deal (airing Oct. 9), Variant (Oct. 16), What’s Been Lost (Oct. 23) and Outpost 22 (Oct. 30). The titles for Episode 22 (Nov. 6), Episode 23 (Nov. 13) and the series finale (Nov. 20) have yet to be announced.

Executive producer Greg Nicotero–who directed the series finale–said things became tense on the set during the filming of that very last episode. “We felt like we had an obligation to make sure this landed,” he said. “Everybody was saying we can’t screw this up because all eyes end up on the last episode.”

This wrapup of the long-running series is all about “completing The Walking Dead story,” said chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, “not setting up spinoffs (three are planned for next year). There’s room for those spinoffs, but–full-on–The Walking Dead finale concludes the story of these 11 years.”
