Anne Rice’s legacy continues stronger than ever.
Mayfair Witches–based on the late horror author’s popular series–received an eight-episode order for its first season late last year, and this week landed its lead actor, according to Variety.
Alexandra Daddario–last seen in the acclaimed first season of HBO’s The White Lotus–has signed on to play Rowan, described as a “brilliant doctor who grapples with her fate as the heir to a family of powerful witches. She also must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.”
The show–expected to hit AMC and AMC+ later this year–is led by Esta Spalding (as showrunner and writer) and Michelle Ashford (as writer and executive producer). AMC Studios will produce the series.
Mayfair Witches is based on Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy of novels that began in 1990 with The Witching Hour and continued with Lasher in 1993 and Taltos in 1994. The novels revolve around a family of witches whose fortunes have been guided for generations by a spirit named Lasher.
Mayfair Witches will join another Rice-inspired series on AMC–Interview with the Vampire–which is now in production with leads Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson.
