Is the Earth ready for this?

The FX Alien series–based on the iconic 1979 horror-s/f film–is gearing up to start shooting later this year, and now it has one of is leads, according to a report on Deadline.

Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling) will work with showrunner Noah Hawley, who already has scripts written for the show.

The series, as explained by FX chief John Landgraf, will be “the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth. It takes place on our planet, right near the end of the century–about 70 years from now.”

As reported previously, Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley character will not be part of this show, which “takes place before Ripley,” Landgraf said. “Ripley won’t be a part of it, nor any of the other characters in Alien.”

Ridley Scott–the filmmaker behind the original Alien film–will produce the FX series, which is expected to consist of between eight and 10 hour-long episodes.
