Adaptation Of Horror Comic Book ‘Mercy Sparx’ In Works

A hellish she-demon comes to Earth. What’s not to like?

Mercy Sparx–a horror comic from Devil’s Due Publishing that debuted in 2008–is getting a screen adaptation by The Picture Company and Assemble Media for MGM, according to a report on Deadline, and the project has landed a screenwriter.

Laura Kosann this week replaced Nick Shafir on the scripting chores for the film, which reportedly is being viewed by MGM as a possible franchise starter–with a powerful female character as the lead.

Created by Josh Blaylock, Mercy Sparx follows the titular female demon sent from Hell to Earth on a mission, which she must complete while hiding among humans.

But, while on Earth, Mercy “has an existential crisis and begins to see the gray area between good and evil,” according to the synopsis. “This forces her to choose her place within it and compromises her mission.”

Jack Heller, Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona serve as producers on the project, while comic book creator Blaylock and Scott Veltri act as executive producers.

Kosann wrote, directed and produced her debut feature film, The Social Ones (2019), as well as writing and directing various video shorts for TV. It’s unclear at this time if she will direct the Mercy Sparx film.
