According to a report on THR, Legendary is taking steps to stretch the franchise to at least one more film. Reports state that Godzilla vs Kong director Adam Wingard is in talks to return to direct the next film, which rumors have it tentatively being titled Son of Kong.
As of now there isn’t a set timetable for the film as Wingard is busy doing other projects, and it is also without a confirmed writer. What we do know is that Wingard is rumored to be very involved in created set pieces as well as worldbuilding the Hollow Earth plotline.
Many thought that Legendary’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters might be the end of the current franchise due to it underperforming at the box office and receiving poor ratings on aggregator sites such as Rotten Tomatoes. And then Godzilla vs Kong debuted and blew all expectations out of the water, crossing the $400 million mark globally, without even being released in places like Japan, Brazil, and the U.K., making it the top grossing Hollywood-produced movie released since the pandemic put a major choke hold on the movie business. The success of Godzilla vs Kong may have single handedly saved the franchise.
