A24 To Pick Up Sundance Film ‘The Witch’

A24 is nearing the end of negotiations to pick up Robert Eggers’ hot horror flick ‘The Witch’. The film isn’t premiering until Tuesday, but buzz has been spreading from the early screenings. ‘The Witch’ takes place in a New England town before the Salem trials of 1692 and is the story of a family that turns on itself after falling under the spell of superstition, when it’s farm has a crop shortage and one of their own goes missing.  Anya Taylor Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger and Lucas Dawson star in the film, which is getting praise as a slow burning horror story that recreates the pre-Salem time period in meticulous detail. A24 is making the deal for U.S. rights only.
