Our Thoughts: You may have noticed that we have been giving a little more press to “A Voice in the Dark” here at ComicMonsters.com than we usually do for a title. There’s a reason for that: it’s that freaking good! This book done by Larime Taylor is one that you want to be onboard with now to watch not only as the story unfolds, but how Taylor continues to improve as a writer and artist.
Minor spoilers below.
As I have gotten to issue #3 in the series now, this book is starting to remind me of Quentin Tarantino’s “Death Proof.” Maybe there was some inspiration by Zoey Bell there that led Taylor to pick the name Zoey for his lead? While the two stories are nothing alike, my comparison of “Death Proof and “A Voice in the Dark” is that they both have spectacular, yet very real, female characters that are significantly developed. There are pages and pages of dialog that leave you wanting more just so you can get more into the minds and stories of all these ladies and it is surprisingly easy to get invested in the characters and their lives. And also in both stories, the women are the ones you have to watch out for. In this issue of “A Voice in the Dark” we start off knowing that our protagonist, Zoey, is a killer. We saw another female killer in a previous issue and I suspect we have another one in our midst. This particular arc, “Killing Game,” is scheduled for five issues so we only get a taste of what is to come but so far this title is looking fantastic and should be on everyone’s pull list. If you are not already reading this title, you need to track down issue #1 and get started!
