In keeping with America’s fascination with serial killers and true crime, Deadline reports that Epix has ordered a six-part documentary series on the late Charles Manson and his lovely family of killer hippies.
Titled Helter Skelter (the same title as Manson-trial prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi’s 1974 book), the series plans to speak to the history of Manson and his family and will feature never-before-seen interviews with “family” members and folks who were involved in the trials complete with new images and archived footage.
The series will be directed by Lesley Chilcott, producer of the Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth and is set to premiere on June 14th. Michael Wright, President of Epix, said, “Helter Skelter’s bone-chilling narrative is rooted in one of the most infamous and fascinating crimes of the past several decades, and we’re thrilled that this story is being so expertly told on Epix.” Executive Vice President of Epix, Brooker Karzen added, “Helter Skelter is an edge-of-your-seat thriller about a small-time con artist who spearheaded one of the most unspeakable murder tragedies in history.”
