‘A Light Most Hateful’ Novel Slated For Film Treatment

by Jayson Drury

This is a matter of survival at all costs.

A Light Most Hateful–a novel by the Bram Stoker Award-winning author Hailey Piper–will be adapted to the screen by producer Tony Eldridge (The Equalizer franchise), according to a report on Deadline. No timetable for the new film was revealed.

The novel–described as a survival horror story–relates “a female experience that becomes monstrous.” The storyline follows Olivia and her best friend Sunflower, who are confined together in Chapel Hill, Pa. after being separated three years before from family due to a dead-end job and a past from which she fled.

Then, one night, a storm devastates the town and brings with it a nightmarish monster. If Olivia ever wants to reconcile with her past and her family, she must fight supernaturally possessed townspeople and find her friend.

But, as the night drags on, Olivia fears it may be her friend who is creating the nightmare in which she’s now living.

Eldridge called the novel “edgy and scary as hell,” adding that the story “blasts the reader down a twisted rabbit hole of shifting realities and shatters mirror after mirror.”
