2023 Horror Comic Awards: Mini-Series of the Year is ‘Where Monsters Lie’

by Rob Caprilozzi

Did you ever wonder where slashers go when they aren’t slashing? They’re at Wilmhurst, of course, a gated community in the middle of nowhere where they relax—or try to—until they get the call to go out and kill again.

While there were many high-quality mini-series that came out this year, the one that we had the most fun reading was Where Monsters Lie by Dark Horse Comics. The four-issue series tells the story of a group of monsters whose secret is up as law enforcement comes to their community in force…Chaos ensues.

The series, written by two-time Eisner nominated comic creator Kyle Starks, is somewhat of a slasher fans dream. Imagine all your favorite slashers, the killer doll, the masked maniac with a knife, the deadly puzzle creating madman and more all teaming up against a common enemy.

Congratulations to Kyle Starks, Dark Horse Comics and the entire creative team on Where Monsters Lie for winning the Horror Comic Award for Mini-Series of the Year.
