Zombieland 2 Writers Confirm Script is Complete

A lot has happened since Zombieland was released in 2009. Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Amber Heard, and Abigail Breslin have gone on to become big names in Hollywood; and Woody Harrelson has remained as red-hot as ever. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick went on to write the script of the incredibly successful Deadpool for Fox, which further solidified them as writers who could create “R” rated projects which can be lucrative for studios even in an unpredictable market.

Reese and Wernick, recently sat down with ComicBook to explain their progress on Zombieland 2, and to detail a campaign effort to get the film made that’s not unlike what happened during pre-production for Deadpool. Here are some highlights from their discussion:

“It is [in active development]. We’re trying to get it going. All of our cast have read the script and love it. Reuben [Fleischer] is signed on. It’s just a matter of making our cast deals and making it for a budget number. All the cast have become superstars now so, we made Zombieland with 20 million, so it’s trying to fit that financial model into the sequel model so it makes sense for the studio and being able to pay the actors what they now get paid and deserve to paid.

We see (Sony Pictures chairman) Tom Rothman pretty frequently now and we’re pestering that dude. He’s like, ‘Please, enough with the Zombieland talk!’ We’re pestering him the way we pestered Fox on Deadpool. We’re not letting it go. We really want to see Zombieland 2.”

Sony first teased a logo for Zombieland 2 at CinemaCon 2016, so all of that pestering might eventually pay off! Stay tuned to Horror News Network for more developments on Zombieland 2 as they break!
