We have the trailer for the first Snapchat scripted film, which is shot in real time, to share with you. Andrea Russet and actor Sean O’Donnell starred in Sickhouse, which was released on Snapchap earlier this month. The Snaps are no longer viewable, however it is being released as a feature film June 1 on Vimeo.
We also have a clip Andrea after “surviving” Sickhouse. You can view both below, along with additional information on the film.
Premise of Sickhouse:
A group of friends obsessed with social media go on an excursion into the woods to explore the lore of Sickhouse. Sickhouse leads viewers on a (deadly!) journey that has unsuspected consequences for all concerned, including the audience.
Not only was Sickhouse shot in real time but it was also produced, directed, edited and marketed in real time. It was also shot entirely on iPhones and in chronological order, which is very atypical for the film industry.
Using Snapchat meant that the content had to feel authentic and organic to the platform. That meant letting go of some of the script and allowing the talent to improvise in 10-second scenes.
In order to make the storyline more believable, Sickhouse mythology was created. When fans Googled Sickhouse to find out what Andrea and her friends were exploring, they found a website and a Facebook page detailing the mythology surrounding the house.
At one point during the filming, several fans of Andrea’s created FAKE Twitter accounts for her (fake) friend in the movie, Taylour. One of the accounts, @SweetBaBayTay, amassed almost 5,000 followers in just a couple of days. Shows the power of the story as well as Andrea’s influence.
