Todd McFarlane Says R-Rated ‘Spawn’ Movie is Gaining Momentum in Hollywood

Todd McFarlane announced in July of 2017 that he would be directing and producing an R-rated Spawn movie with Blumhouse. After further announcements that Jamie Foxx will star as Al Simmons and Jeremy Renner will also appear in the film, fans haven’t heard much about when production on the project would commence. That all changes with McFarlane’s new announcement on Instagram. Accompanied by an image of Jamie Foxx against a backdrop featuring classic Spawn artwork, McFarlane stated that the success of Joker has Hollywood very interested in making an R-rated Spawn movie:

Joker netted over $1 billion worldwide and earned Joaquin Phoenix numerous “best actor” nominations and awards for his role as the clown prince of crime, so it’s easy to understand why the entertainment industry would be interested in other gritty cinematic representations of popular, time-tested comic book characters. McFarlane’s passion for the project and Jamie Foxx as the lead is the exact formula that director Todd Philips and Phoenix just showed could lead to a financial and critical success.

McFarlane hopes to share big news on the upcoming Spawn movie within the next month, and Horror News Network will post it right here as soon as it breaks!
