The Satanic Temple Settles Lawsuit Over ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s’ Use of Copyrighted Statue of Baphomet

The Satanic Temple announced today that they have settled their lawsuit and have come to an amicable agreement with Warner Brothers and Netflix over the use of their copyrighted statue of Baphomet on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

According to the official statement released by the organization, “The Satanic Temple is pleased to announce that the lawsuit it recently filed against Warner Bros. and Netflix has been amicably settled. ”  The agreement also ensures that “The unique elements of the Satanic Temple’s Baphomet with Children statue have been acknowledged in the credits of episodes which have already been filmed.  The remaining terms of the settlement are subject to a confidentiality agreement.”

This agreement puts to rest the lawsuit that sought upwards of $50 million dollars in damages over copyright infringement.  The statue was first displayed in the Netflix series as a prop in Sabrina’s school, The Academy of Unseen Arts (not to be confused with Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, or Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children).  Baphomet is one of the most well-known and recognizable demons, and his Sabbatic Goat image has been well-documented in occult circles since the early 19th century.

Let’s hope Warner Brothers and Netflix take a little more care the next time they “borrow” an image from The Satanic Temple or any other organization that holds a copyright on intellectual property.
