No, it’s not horror. Hell, it’s not even in the vicinity of it…but I am a huge sucker for nostalgia and not much hits me harder in the feels than a little Daniel-san and Johnny Lawrence Karate Kid-style beef!
This past summer, YouTube Red announced that a show was in the works for their streaming channel that featured William Zabka and Ralph Macchio back in their roles oh Johnny and Daniel in a show aptly titled Cobra Kai. The show would feature a down on his luck Johnny re-opening the legendary Cobra Kai dojo 30 years after it closed down when he lost to Daniel and his sensei John Kreese was disgraced at the tournament.
As you can see from the first trailer below, Daniel LaRusso is definitely not thrilled about the re-opening of the disgraced dojo and another showdown between the two middle-aged karate studs is definitely in the cards.
According to FoxNews, the show will air 10 half-hour episodes written by Hot Tub Time Machine scribe Josh Heald and Harold & Kumar writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. Will Smith’s Sony Pictures Television Studios-based Overbook Entertainment will executive produce. There has been no announcement of release date yet.
Check out the teaser for Cobra Kai below and check back to Horror News Network as you can bet your sweet patootie that I’ll update this story as news becomes available.
Stay banzai, Daniel-san.
