M. Night Shyamalan’s new Tales from the Crypt series has gotten official 10-episode order on TNT. The anthology series, based on the original EC Comics, will feature a reinvented Crypt Keeper and has a working title of Time of Death. The series will launch in 2017.
Shyamalan said, “I’m really thrilled about the way this horror block is coming together with the addition of Time of Death and Creatures. That such a beloved property like Tales from the Crypt is launching our evening makes it an even more unique and exciting opportunity. Across the board, the level of talent has been very inspiring.”
The series will follow season-long horror tales that will unfold in real time. Each on will take the viewer hour-by-hour though a single “long night of hell.” The first season will center around a psychopathic killer who returns to his hometown in the Midwest during the annual county fair to take revenge on the community that he believes destroyed his life. Guy Busick (Watch Over Me) wrote the pilot. Shyamalan, R. Christopher Murphy, and IM Global Television’s Mark Stern and Stuart Ford are executive producing.
TNT is also developing Creatures for their new horror block. It centers around two former best friends who tried to cut out their classmate’s heart, as a sacrifice to the online bogeyman they invented called Mr. Gorgi, when they were 12 year olds. Present day, which is 15 years later, the two women are released from a psych institute, back into their small hometown in Alaska, when they start feeling the pull of Mr.Gorgi again. Dominic Mitchell (In the Flesh) has written the script. Sue Naegle’s Naegle Ink is producing. Tom Shankland (House of Cards) is going to direct and executive produce.
