Damon Lindelof in Talks to Bring ‘Watchmen’ to HBO

HBO, a network known for its dark and gritty television series like The Night OfTrue Detective, and Oz, may be adding an adaptation of the definitive dark and gritty graphic novel masterpiece, Watchmen, to its stable. Variety reports that the prolific screenwriter, Damon Lindelof, is in talks to develop an adaptation of the book into a television series for the premium network.

Created in 1986 by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Watchmen has since become recognized as one of the finest and most influential graphic novels ever published; so it’s no wonder the network believes it is a strong property to adapt. HBO unsuccessfully attempted to develop a Watchmen television series back in 2014. Lindelof’s current project is said to be completely independent of that process. Lindelof’s previous work for HBO was on The Leftover, which recently concluded. His previous screenwriting work includes science fiction and horror projects such as television’s Lost, and movies like PrometheusStar Trek Into Darkness, and World War Z. read more

David Fincher to Direct World War Z Sequel Starring Brad Pitt

Last summer, a rumor began circulating that David Fincher- one of the finest directors of our time- was being wooed by his longtime collaborator, Brad Pitt, into directing a sequel to 2013’s World War Z. Fincher’s aversion to mainstream blockbusters and his highly selective filmmaking process made the rumor seem unlikely at the time, but now it sounds like he is very close to making a deal to direct the film!

Variety reports that the project was put on hold so that Pitt could finalize his divorce from Angelina Jolie, but now Paramount Studio’s CEO, Jim Gianopulos, is eager to greenlight the film within a couple of weeks. Gianopulos has a relationship with Fincher that extends beyond his current role in the studio. They’ve collaborated in the past on Fight Club and Gone Girl. Production is expected to begin during the first quarter of 2018. read more

World War Z Sequel and Friday the 13th Reboot Removed From 2017 Release List

The World War Z Sequel and the Friday the 13th Reboot have just been removed from Paramount Pictures 2017 release list according to Deadline.

World War Z Two was originally scheduled to debut on June 9th opposite Universal’s The Mummy, but the film has been plagued by pre-production troubles with original director Juan Antonio Bayona exiting the project last year.  No replacement director has been named at this point, although David Fincher was mentioned as a potential “dream” choice last summer, but reports were probably more wishful thinking than a concrete possibility. The removal of WWZ 2  does work out for Universal, as The Mummy will open unopposed on June 9th, as the studio hopes to launch their very own “Classic Monsters” cinematic universe. read more
