WiHM: Interview with Scream Queen Laura Ortiz

As part of Horror News Network’s Women in Horror Month coverage, HNN’s Larry Dwyer was able to chat with scream queen Laura Ortiz about her work in the world of horror. Laura’s resume includes 2006’ The Hills Have Eyes, Chillerama, Holliston, Victor Crowley and a tiny film called Guardians of the Galaxy. Larry and Laura discussed how she got started in the business and then Larry gets corrected on the proper way to spell Colombia – whoops! Enjoy!

Women in Horror Month: Interview with Jill “Sixx” Gevargizian

February is Women in Horror Month! As part of the Horror News Network spotlight on women this month we have talked to Jill “Sixx” Gevargizian about her experiences as a woman in the world of horror. Jill’s most recent horror short The Stylist starring Najarra Townsend (Contracted) won a slew of awards including the Jury Award and Audience Choice at the prestigious Etheria Film Night and Jill also nabbed best director of a short film at Requiem Fear Fest.

All-Female Directed Horror Anthology “XX” Releases Trailer

In a genre that was once helmed almost entirely by men, it is awesomely refreshing to see the amount of women making huge strides in horror. Jovanka Vuckovic is no stranger to the horror genre; she made her bones as Editor-In-Chief of Rue Morgue magazine and thrilled audiences and film festivals alike with her 2013 short film, The Captured Bird, which was executive produced by the legendary Guillermo del Toro.

Now the horror world awaits her latest effort in the anthology film XX. The film is made up of four different stories from four female directors. The stories are: Jovanka Vuckovic’s The Box, Roxanne Benjamin’s Don’t Fall, Karyn Kusama’s Only Living Son and musician St. Vincent (Annie Clark) rounds out the foursome with her directorial debut Birthday Party. read more
