Shudder’s ‘Creepshow’ Episode One: The Horror News Network Review

Anticipation for Shudder’s new horror anthology series Creepshow (based on the 1982 film written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero) has been sky high ever since the project was announced.  The original anthology film captured all the best parts of classic EC horror comics, adding even more gore and shocks than the ones that got the original comics banned in the first place.  Could a new series live up to the standard set by King and Romero in 1982?

Cautious optimism turned to genuine excitement when the details of the series were revealed Shudder’s New York Comic Con panel last year, when Greg Nicotero was announced as one of the executive producers and directors, with stories by some of the best writers in horror including King, Joe Hill, Joe R. Lansdale, and Bird Box’s Josh Malerman. read more

Thousands Invade 6th Annual CT HorrorFest!

This past Saturday, a giant horde of blood-thirsty horror fans descended upon the Naugatuck Event Center, in the normally quiet town of Naugatuck, Connecticut, to take part in Horror News Network’s sixth annual CT HorrorFest; a Comic-Con type convention geared toward the horror community.

The brainchild of Horror News Network founders Rob and Christine Caprilozzi, CT HorrorFest began as a much smaller convention in Waterbury, CT in 2014 before spending the next four years in Danbury, CT. The opportunity to move the convention to the much larger Naugatuck Event Center for the 2019 show was a “no-brainer” for the duo. read more

Lionsgate Reveals Full Length Trailer for ‘Jigsaw’

The folks at Lionsgate have been very secretive about Jigsaw, the upcoming eighth film in their lucrative Saw movie franchise (For those keeping count, this one is a direct sequel to the uncomfortably-titled Saw 3D: The Final Chapter). For the longest time, we didn’t even know whether or not Tobin Bell would be returning to his famous role as John Kramer/The Jigsaw Killer. That all changes today because Lionsgate just released their first full length trailer for the movie!

We can tell right away that the movie will indeed focus on Bell’s John Kramer. While it’s still a mystery how he is participating in such an elaborate game of torture so long after his death, it’s clear that the mystery will be addressed with this movie. Based on some of the clips and the music selected for the trailer, Jigsaw appears to have a different tone from some of it’s earlier entries. I don’t want to call it a “lighter” tone, because one look at the trailer will convince you that this movie will obviously be just as grisly as its predecessors. But there might be a tongue-in-cheek element to this one that could lighten the gravity of all of the carnage and gore that the trailer promises. read more

New Poster for Jigsaw Revealed

Just when you thought torture porn was going the way of the buffalo, Lionsgate is hoping that you remember that the game is still on. The studio has released the first official poster for Jigsaw, the eight film in the Saw franchise and first since 2010’s Saw 3D: The Final Chapter. Star Tobin Bell, who plays Jigsaw/John in all of the previous movies (despite being deceased for most of them) also made the announcement via his Twitter account (below).

The poster, bearing the ominous tagline “Become Jigsaw”, features a familiar creepy mask on a black/grey background and oozing with eeriness. This will be the first stab at the popular horror franchise for directors Michael and Peter Speirig, who also co-directed the 2003 Australian zombie flick Undead. Much like Universal is currently doing with the Child’s Play films (Cult of Chucky due out on October 3rd), Lionsgate is hoping to revive a once-dominant slate of films that were seemingly released every year. read more

‘Saw: Legacy’ Undergoes Last Minute Name Change

I hope nobody out there got “Saw: Legacy” tattoos in a fit of rabid anticipation of the film’s upcoming release this Halloween… it has a new title!

The folks behind the iconic franchise recently took to Twitter to announce the name change and reinforce its release date of October 27th, 2017:

The name change is likely Lionsgate’s way of showing audiences that the eighth entry in the franchise will focus heavily on Tobin Bell’s Jigsaw, the original villain of the series whose role was continuously reduced in later installments due to the studio regrettably killing him off too soon. read more
