Darren Lynn Bousman Returns with ‘St. Agatha’

Darren Lynn Bousman, the director most famous for Saw II, III, and IV, is ready to return to cinemas (well, at least one or two) with his latest film St. Agatha. The film (clearly an attempt to capitalize on this past fall’s The Nun), begins with a young girl seeking refuge in a spooky convent. Our protagonist, Mary (get it?), soon realizes that the seemingly innocent, evil nuns are really “not innocent”, evil nuns and has to run for her life.

The film stars True Blood’s Carolyn Hennesy, Sabrina Kern (Pretty Hurt), Courtney Halverson (Unfriended), Trin Miller (Captain Fantastic) and Seth Michaels (Eden).  St. Agatha was surprisingly written by four individuals including Andy Demetrio, Shaun Fletcher, Sara Sometti Michaels, and Clint Sears.  Uncork’d Entertainment will handle the film’s North American distribution, although it may hard to locate in your local area.  The film is set to debut in theaters, On Demand, and Digital HD all on the same day, which happens to be February 8. read more

‘Venom’ Sets a New October Record at the Weekend Box Office

Despite primarily negative reviews and the lack of other spider-characters to rely on, Sony’s Venom set box office records this weekend, earning over $80 million in receipts.  Venom now holds the record for the highest grossing 3-day opening in October, defeating the previous record holder (Gravity) by almost $25 million dollars.

This total is even more impressive considering that Venom’s current aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes is only 32%.  The film has performed better with fans however, who gave the nasty symbiote a B+ on Cinema Score and a 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.  Venom should see a steep decline next weekend, but with few superhero-related properties on the horizon, the film will certainly improve on its already healthy take at the box office. read more

‘The Nun’ “Preys” on the Competition at Weekend Box Office

The Nun kicked off a busy fall season at the box office by accumulating an estimated $53.5 million at this weekend’s box office, destroying the previous Conjure-verse’s opening weekend record set by the original The Conjuring with $41.8 million in the summer of 2013.

The debut is also the second largest September opening ever, going past the $48.4 million set by Hotel Transylvania 2 in 2015. The Nun could not come close to last fall’s king of the horror world, It, however, which took in $123.4 for its opening weekend.  The Nun’s $53.5 million debut was also the second largest opening ever for an R-rated horror film, again placing behind Warner Brother’s  It.  The Nun was also a hit internationally, bringing in $77.5 million, totaling $131 million worldwide. read more

New Video Explores ‘The Conjuring’ Universe Timeline and Where ‘The Nun’ Fits In

Have you ever wondered when each film takes place in The Conjuring film universe?  If so, Warner Brothers Pictures has provided all the information you need in the new featurette designed to promote the latest entry in the franchise, The Nun.

It appears that the Nun takes place in 1952, almost twenty years before the events that occurred in the original The Conjuring film and the later prequels involving Annabelle.

The runaway promotion train has been building for months for The Nun, with all the gimmicks that would make William Castle proud including a video telling viewers to watch all the way to the end (with no pay-off other than the date of release) and a recently banned youtube video that scared the pants off of a few concerned citizens.  There is no truth to the rumor that theaters will be offering every audience member a life insurance policy just in case they die of fright watching The Nun, but there are a few weeks left before the film hits theaters. read more

Youtube Removes Latest Ad for ‘The Nun’ For Policy Violations

Youtube removed the latest “ad” (in reality a six second clip that featured the Nun growling/screaming after 4 seconds of darkness) due to violations of their “shocking content policy”.

Reportedly, many viewers took to twitter to complain about “the shocker” (not to be confused with the Wes Craven film starring Mitch Pileggi) and Youtube jumped to their rescue, removing the complete waste of time from their channel.

Appreciate you bringing this to our attention! This ad violates our shocking content policy and it's no longer running as an ad. More info here: https://t.co/dOUocjUevh read more

‘The Nun’ TV Spot Warns You to Stay Out of that Coffin!

Just when you thought it was safe to get into a coffin, Warner Brothers had to show us otherwise in their new TV commercial for the upcoming entry in their ever-expanding “Conjure-verse”, The Nun.

The good ole’ “stuck-in-a-coffin” motif has been used in films and literature for centuries (after all, it was Edgar Allen Poe’s greatest fear, and he even wrote an essay about it called “The Premature Burial”), but never before have we seen two “people” stuck in one regular sized model. read more
