André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) has been tapped to direct the screen adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 novel ‘The Long Walk’. According to Deadline, Øvredal will direct the film for New Line, which already has It: Chapter Two and Salem’s Lot in the works. The screenplay for The Long Walk has been written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, White House Down) who will also produce along with oft-partners Bradley Fischer and William Sherak.
The novel ‘The Long Walk’ was first published under the pen-name Richard Bachman in 1979 which King also used for the novels ‘Rage’, ‘Roadwork’, ‘The Running Man’ and ‘Thinner’. The synopsis of the story (from Amazon) is as follows:
