The ghoulish family that never dies is being resurrected once again in cartoon form! According to Deadline, the upcoming MGM project, a reboot of The Addams Family franchise, will be given the CGI treatment after all. On the heels of hiring Conrad Vernon (Sausage Party, Monsters vs. Aliens) to direct, MGM has brought on Cinesite Studios to create the digital visual effects and animation. Production has already begun in Vancouver, BC.
The Addams Family is based on the iconic television show from the 1960s, which only ran for two seasons but continues to find life in syndication and overall pop culture lore. The show spawned two big-budget Hollywood films (1991’s The Addams Family and 1993’s Addams Family Values), and multiple show reboot attempts and made-for-TV movies. Although not nearly as popular, there were actually two separate cartoon series based on the family of freaks in 1973 and 1992. While being in the works for the past 4 years, it is being widely speculated that the new CG film from MGM will be based more on the cartoons than the feature films. Screenwriter Pamela Pettler (Monster House, Corpse Bride) has already created the script that Vernon will be working with.
