Emmy-Winning Adam Bernstein to Direct ‘The Mist’ Premiere

The premiere episode of Spike’s The Mist will be directed by Emmy-winning director Adam Bernstein.  The straight-to-series drama is based on Stephen King’s novella of the same name.   The TWC-Dimension Television series, which will premiere in 2017, begins production this summer.   The series centers around a seemingly innocuous mist that overtakes a small town, leaving chaos in its wake.   Christian Torpe is writing and executive producing.

Bernstein is known for his pilots, which include   Fargo, 30 Rock, and Scrubs.    Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Californication, Shameless, Bored to Death, Oz, Homicide: Life on the Street, and Entourage are included in his other credits. read more

UPDATE: ‘The Mist’ TV Adaptation Gets Series Order on Spike

We previously reported that a TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist had gotten a pilot on Spike. The project, from TWC-Dimension Television, has now gotten a straight-to-series pickup.  The decision was made after hearing the series pitch the network said.

Saban Films Acquires Stephen King Sci-Fi Adaptation ‘Cell’

 

Saban Films has acquired the rights to the sci-fi thriller ‘Cell,’ which stars John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.   It is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name and is directed by Tod “Kip” Williams.   It centers around a graphic artist (Cusack), who is struggling, and teams up with a small group of people to travel across New England to reunite with his son, following a mysterious cellphone signal results in the population turning into mindless animals.

Saban Films president Bill Bromiley said, “Stephen King is widely recognized as a master of the horror genre. Combining his talent along with Tod’s vision and this dynamic cast, which reteams King, John Cusack and Samuel L. Simon Merrells Joins Stephen King’s I AM THE DOORWAY Subject to work commitments

“We are thrilled to announce that British actor Simon Merrells (Spartacus: War of the Damned, The Tomorrow People, Dominion) has agreed to star in our adaptation of ‘I Am The Doorway’!

Subject to work commitments, Simon will be playing the central role of former astronaut Arthur, a broken man who suffered a terrible loss after a deep space mission gone wrong. Merrells has previously worked with our director Simon Pearce on his feature film Judas Ghost, in which he played camera-man and ghost finder Mark Vega.” read more

Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba Cast in ‘Dark Tower,’ Confirmed by Stephen King

 

Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba have been cast in ‘Dark Tower,’ as confirmed by Stephen King himself today.  He tweeted the news today saying, “It’s official: The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed. DarkTowerMovie @McConaughey @IdrisElba”   The two actors had been mentioned as possible additions to the cast in the past few months.

Nikolaj Arcel is directing the film, which will be produced by  Akiva Goldsman, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins.   Universal pulled out of the project back in 2011,   after which Sony picked it up. Stephen King’s ‘The Mist’ Gets TV Series on Spike

Spike has ordered a pilot for a drama series based on Stephen King’s ‘The Mist.’   The Dimension Television series will tell the story about a seemingly harmless mist that over takes a small town and creates havoc.   The series is the first pilot ordered since the network has started producing scripted shows again.   The network will be continuing to explore straight-to-series and pilot series productions.   Christian Torpe (Rita) is writing and executive producing the series.   Dimension previously adapted the story as a film in 2007.  read more
