Netflix Releases Unsettling New Trailer for Survival Horror Film ‘The Ritual’

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the forest… the folks at Netflix have unleashed an unsettling new trailer for The Ritual! The woods have been relatively safe ever since The Blair Witch Project scarred the collective unconscious of audiences everywhere. Now, The Ritual plans to make us all think twice about planning our next camping trips!

The Ritual follows a group of friends from college who reunite for a camping excursion. Things take a turn for the worse when they become stalked by an unknown presence. The film was directed by David Bruckner, who previously directed the “Amateur Night” segment of V/H/S, and 2015’s Southbound. The film will star Rafe Spall (Hot Fuzz, Prometheus) and Robert James-Collier (Downton Abbey, The Level). read more

“XX” Movie Review

I’ve always been a sucker for a good horror anthology film. From Creepshow to Tales from the Darkside: The Movie to 2009’s Trick ‘R Treat, there’s just something awesome about getting multiple tales for the price of one and even a cool wrap-around story if you’re lucky.

Well, here we are in Women in Horror Month and there’s a new four-story horror anthology film directed by four different kick-ass women called XX available for your viewing pleasure.

No stranger to the world of horror, Jovanka Vuckovic’s take on Jack Ketchum’s The Box is up first. If you’ve never read the story, it’s more of a sad tale than a horror tale but is still frightening none the less. A seemingly happy family is riding the train when their son notices another rider carrying a small box. He asks to see what’s inside the box and the stranger abides and from that night on the boy refuses to eat. This story is the perfect opening to the anthology as it sets quite a grim tone for the rest of the movie. Well-acted and directed, a great piece. read more

SOUTHBOUND– Review

Southbound – Review

By Lynn Sorel

Rating: 8 out of 10

Synopsis: Five interlocking tales of terror follow the fates of a group of weary travellers who confront their worst nightmares – and darkest secrets – over one long night on a desolate stretch of desert highway.

Our Thoughts: Southbound features a series of disturbing tales, which all take place in the same desert. Each story of which has some tie to past transgressions by those involved.

From the truly bizarre, to the terrifying, Southbound gives us some of the best kinds of stories horror has to offer. It reminded me of the Twilight Zone in someways, with the desert being an unusual place, where truly strange and horrible things are a regular occurrence. read more
