Just six horror movies in the history of cinema have ever been nominated for Best Picture by the Academy (counting Black Swan and Get Out, of course), so fans of the genre should be used to their favorite films being snubbed. However, in 2020 the Oscars stooped to a new low, failing to acknowledge a veteran actor in their ‘In Memoriam’ section of the broadcast with nearly 150 acting credits on his resume spanning a robust six decades of work. Sid Haig, who passed away on September 19, 2019 at the age of 80, was one of at least five big Hollywood names who left us in the past year left out of the video package. Shame on you, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
We at Horror News Network are mourning the loss of one of the great horror character actors ever, Sid Haig. His wife, Susan L. Oberg, made the announcement on Instagram early this morning, revealing that he had passed away on Saturday, September 21st (screenshot below.) The Fresno, CA native was 80.
Haig had a long and storied career in Hollywood, with nearly 150 television and movie credits dating all the way back to the early 1960’s. For horror fans, he really began to hit his stride beginning in 2003, as he portrayed his most iconic screen character, Captain Spaulding, in Rob Zombie’s first feature film, 2003’s House of 1000 Corpses. Zombie would go on to cast Haig in important roles in nearly all of his subsequent films, including House sequel The Devil’s Rejects (2005), the remake of Halloween (2007), and The Lords of Salem ( 2012). Haig even reprised his role as Spaulding/Johnny Lee Johns for the upcoming film Three From Hell, which is due to be released on VOD in October. Haig worked with the likes of Hollywood heavyweights from Lucille Ball to Robert Duvall, Pam Grier to Quentin Tarantino throughout his impressive career spanning six decades. read more
After a 15 year hiatus, Rob Zombie’s Firefly family returns to the silver screen for a limited Fatham Events theatrical engagement. While House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects were created on $7 million budgets, 3 from Hell was made on a budget of just $3 million. Smaller budgets often mean more opportunities for filmmakers to be creative without the studio scrutiny and expectations that come with a higher price tag, and there’s usually more leeway when it comes to studio tolerance for the kinds of shocking and graphic content Zombie’s films are usually known for. But- while Zombie’s twisted vision for the franchise is clearly never compromised in this film- the limitations of the budget appear to prevent 3 from Hell from reaching the high watermark Zombie set with The Devil’s Rejects. read more
Rob Zombie took to his official web site today to unveil something 3 From Hell fans have long been waiting for: the movie’s official poster art!
The writer/director’s message is short and sweet, and it cuts right to an image that eerily evokes the original teaser poster art of the film’s predecessor, The Devil’s Rejects:
“Dig the official poster for 3 FROM HELL!”
Fans of the franchise will quickly notice that Sid Haig is not featured on the new poster art alongside Bill Moseley and Sheri Moon Zombie. Instead, Richard Brake’s character- a newcomer named Foxy- stands beside the two. How Haig’s fan-favorite character, Captain Spaulding, fits into the events of the film remains to be seen. read more
It looks as if even a barrage of gunfire can’t keep the Firefly Family down. This morning Rob Zombie revealed the teaser trailer for 3 From Hell today via his official Instagram account featuring Captain Spaulding, Otis and Baby. While the 50-second trailer didn’t reveal too much, it gives us many flashback scenes to House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects.
In addition to Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Sheri Moon Zombie all returning to reprise their roles, 3 From Hell also includes Emilio Rivera, Danny Trejo, Clint Howard, Richard Brake, Daniel Roebuck, Dee Wallace, Sean Whalen, and Jeff Daniel Phillips. read more

Rob Zombie has a lot more than 3 From Hell now with Emilio Rivera, Tom Papa, David Ury and Clint Howard being added to the expanding cast of the follow-up to The Devil’s Rejects.
Rivera is known for playing Marcus Alvarez on FX’s Sons of Anarchy but can be seen also in Netflix’s On My Block and the upcoming spin-off Mayans MC.
In his Instagram announcement post, Zombie said ,“I wonder how he fits it?” Right? Maybe he’s part of Danny Trejo’s new crew? After all, Trejo’s character DID survive The Devil’s Rejects… We’ll see soon!” read more

As we reported just last week, Rob Zombie announced that 3 From Hell has begun filming. Since the initial announcement, which did not include Sid Haig’s name, who portrayed the terrifying, yet somehow lovable clown Captain Spaulding, Haig has since been confirmed by the director. With Haig on board, the trio from The Devil’s Rejects has official reunited. Just recently veteran actor Austin Stoker was confirmed by Zombie. read more
Rumors have been swirling for months about the possibility of Rob Zombie secretly working on a third film featuring that wacky Firefly family that he introduced the world to with 2003’s House of 1000 Corpses and then the 2005 sequel The Devil’s Rejects. Well, Mr. Zombie announced to the world today via his Instagram account that filming has begun on 3 From Hell (or Three from Hell).
While there is no word on casting yet, not even an IMDB page for the film, we can see by the hashtags that, at the very least, Rob’s wife Sheri Moon Zombie (Baby Firefly) and Bill Moseley (Otis) are returning for the action; no word yet on whether fan-favorite Sid Haig (Captain Spaulding) also survived that hail of bullets at the end of Devil’s Rejects (spoiler alert). read more
The last work of the legendary Gunnar Hansen will soon be available for all to see. Before he left us in 2015, Gunnar wrote the script for the film Death House with the intentions of featuring as many legends of the horror genre as possible.
After the gentle giant’s passing, the script was punched up by Harrison Smith (Camp Dread) who also took over directing duties. When it comes to Gunnar’s wish to cast as many horror legends as possible, it’s safe to say that they went all out. The short list is Adrienne Barbeau, Sid Haig, Kane Hodder, Vernon Wells, Tony Todd, Felissa Rose, Michael Berryman, Dee Wallace, Bill Moseley, Barbara Crampton and more…seriously. read more
