AMC Announces ‘Shock Theater’ and ‘Wicked West’ Anthologies and Eli Roth’s ‘History of Horror’

AMC was busy at the annual Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour, announcing over a dozen new series and specials, and many of them are sure to be of interest to horror fans including the scripted horror anthology Shock Theater from Greg Nicotero, Blumhouse’s Wicked West “true tales” anthology, and AMC Visionaries: Eli Roth’s History of Horror.

Shock Theater is described in the official press release as throw-back to classic Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits where “…each episode will be a brand-new sci-fi horror tale in the style of the B movie classics.”  Nicotero will serve as the director and producer of the new series. read more

Beloved Horror Host Zacherley Dead at 98

Dread Central broke the news today that John Zacherle (better know by his stage name Zacherley) died yesterday, a day before the semi-annual Chiller Theater Convention that was named for his popular New York area horror television show from the 1960’s.

John Zacherle started out in early televison and radio broadcasting, but his real claim to fame came as the host of Shock Theater for WCAU-TV out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which debuted on October 7, 1957.  Zacherle started out as an undertaker/vampire character named “Roland” before switching to his trademark Zacherley.   read more
